Brian Patten

As a child

Brian Patten was born in 1946. His early childhood was spent playing in bombed-out houses and in the maze of narrow alleyways of inner-city Liverpool. The earliest influences on his work, he says, were “the street-singers, young men who had returned maimed and estitute from the Second World War, and who wandered singing and begging, caps in hand, down the streets. Their songs haunt me still.”

As an adult

As an artist

Brian Patten is one of the most accessible and popular poets working today. He made his name in the 60s as one of the Liverpool Poets alongside Adrian Henri & Roger McGough and has been writing & performing poetry ever since.
