Cecil Castellucci
As a child
Cecil grew up, inspired, in New York City. The daughter of scientists, she naturally decided to dedicate herself to a life of story-telling. She attended the LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts, where she studied theatre, wore vintage clothes, watched a lot of old black and white movies, and saw a bunch of Broadway plays. Cecil wrote her first story aged five. It was one paragraph long, and every word was misspelt.
As an adult
Cecil currently lives in Los Angeles, California, right inside the belly of the beast called Hollywood.
As an artist
Cecil declares every year: “All Art All the Time” and dedicates herself to fun, and obscure independent projects that involve different aspects of story-telling. Not only is Cecil a writer, she is also a film-maker who just completed her first indie feature film and is co-founder of the short-filmmaking club Alpha 60, which is dedicated to creative endeavours in films. She can be seen acting in her own and others' performance pieces and plays around town. She has also sometimes been known to be a singer/songwriter under the name Cecil Seaskull, and was the lead Nerd in the band, Nerdy Girl. Since 2000, she has been a read-aloud volunteer, through the Los Angeles Times "Reading by Nine" programme, at Mayberry Elementry School in the Echo Park neighbourhood, and won the California State Lottery "Hero in Education" award in 2001.
