  • Event name:Hooked on Drawing with Vivian French
  • About this event: Picture Hooks was set up to support emerging Scottish illustrators, with well-known figures from the world of children's books mentoring 5 up-and-coming artists. At the end of the year their work will be exhibited in the Scottish National Gallery, and the winner will receive a contract from a leading children's book publisher. Author Vivian French has been instrumental in the scheme and she is joined by award-winning Cat Rayner and her mentee to discuss the process and offer tips to budding picture book artists. Lily, Ava, Madison, Emma, Sophie and Olivia are all training to be fairy godmothers at Stargirl Academy under Fairy Mary McBee. Every spell they learn must be put to use helping somebody to earn them a star on their magical necklace – when the necklace is full they’ll be real Stargirls! Join in the fun and the sparkles with Vivian as she introduces you to the magic of the Academy! Vivian French has written hundreds of books for children – fiction, picture books, board books, short stories, non fiction and retellings of folk and fairytales. A popular performer at schools and events, she is a favourite with children of all ages. Vivian lives in Edinburgh.
